Chevron finds more gas off Western Australia

SAN RAMON, California – Chevron Corp. reports its Orthrus-2 well offshore Western Australia has found more gas in the Carnarvon basin. The well encountered 243 ft (74 m) of net gas pay, of which 102 ft (31 m) was encountered in a deeper, previously unexplored target interval in the Orthrus field.

The Orthrus-2 is in the WA-24-R permit approximately 60 m (100 km) northwest of Barrow Island. The well was drilled to TD of 14,098 ft (4,297 m).

Chevron’s Australian subsidiary operates WA-24-R and holds 50% interest, while Mobil Australia Resources Co. Pty Ltd holds 25%, and Shell Development (Australia) Pty Ltd and BP Exploration Alpha Ltd each hold a 12.5% interest.
