LONDON -- EnCore Oil has spudded its latest appraisal well on the Catcher oil discovery in the UK Central North Sea.

The jackup Transocean Galaxy II is drilling well 28/9-3 on the Catcher North structure in block 28/9, with Applied Drilling Technology International (ADTI) managing the operation.

Drilling should take around 20 days, depending on weather and operational requirements.

EnCore says the well has been designed to appraise the Tay and Cromarty reservoirs north of Catcher, at an estimated TVD subsea of 4,300 ft, or 1,310 m (Tay) and 4,500 ft, or 1,371 m (Cromarty).

Earlier, the rig drilled the Varadero discovery for EnCore and its partners. After Catcher North, it is scheduled to drill the Burgman prospect.
