LONDON --Reliance Industries has terminated its latest deepwater exploration well off eastern India after finding only gas shows.
Well KG-D9-B3 well was the second drilled on the company's D9 (KG-DWN-2001/1) exploration license in the Krishna Godavar basin.
It was drilled to a TD of 3,829 m (12,562 ft) by the Transocean drillshipDiscoverer India in a water depth of 2,948 m (9,672 ft), 47 km (29 mi) from the nearest well. It encountered two Tertiary reservoir quality sand packages of 70 m and 40 m (229/131 ft) gross thickness, with gas shows ranging from 6-9 %.
According to partner Hardy Oil & Gas, testing was performed with the MDT tool which suggests water gradient in the sand packages.
Yogeshwar Sharma, CEO of Hardy, said: "Although this exploration well result is disappointing, the presence of thick reservoir quality sands and the potential presence of a petroleum system are encouraging. We will now work with our partner to incorporate the data gathered to update the geological model.”
