LONDON --The drillship Belford Dolphintransferred late last month to the deepwater Tubarao well site in the Rovuma basin offshore Mozambique.

According to partner Cove Energy, the drilling program at Tubarao (operated by Anadarko) should take six to eight weeks to complete.

This follows cessation of operations on Anadarko’s Lagosta gas discovery, which has been suspended for a future flow test. Here the well encountered over 550 ft (167 m) of natural gas pay in Oligocene and Upper Eocene sands.

John Craven, CEO of Cove Energy said: ””The significance of this discovery means that the partnership can now confidently proceed to advance commercialization options - particularly as the operator believes that the three gas discoveries already made, Windjammer, Barquentine and Lagosta, exceed the resource size threshold to support a LNG development in our extensive 2.6- million acre block, offshore Mozambique.”
