OSLO, Norway -- Aker Solutions has contracted MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz to supply four compressor units for Statoil Åsgard subsea compression project in the Norwegian Sea.

Aker Solutions is main contractor for the project, charged with design and construction of the complete subsea system.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz and Statoil have pursued a joint subsea compressor qualification program since 2005.

The Swiss company’s scope of work comprises the supply of four hermetically sealed single HOFIM compressor units, each with a compressor frame (size RB 45) with integrated MAN motor, size M43. Magnetic bearings hold the motor compressor shaft system in position

The company also will supply long-term field services and life cycle support.

Åsgard is in the Haltenbanken in water depths of 240-310 m (787-1,017 ft). Gas and condensate from the Midgard and Mikkel reservoirs are transported through long distance flowlines to the Åsgard B platform.

The HOFIM units will be manufactured and tested in MAN Diesel & Turbo’s facilities in Zurich, Switzerland, and should be delivered in 2012.
