COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- DONG Energy has discovered oil in the Solsort prospect in license 4/98 in the Danish North Sea.
Three side tracks also were drilled to define the limits of the find, all with positive results. DONG commissioned an extensive data collection program, and evaluation is under way.
Solsort was drilled by the Mærsk Resolute to a subsurface depth of 3,041 m (9,977 ft). The well is currently being permanently plugged.
Partners in the license are Bayerngas, Nordsøfonden, and VNG. The appraisal drilling was executed out in cooperation with the same group of companies involved in license 3/09.
