ABERDEEN, UK -- Dana Petroleum has struck oil with its latest well in the Gulf of Suez offshore Egypt.
The company drilled a deviated well from an onshore location into the Nefertiti prospect in the South October PSC, which Dana operates in partnership with Inpex.
Nefertiti-1X was drilled to 14,150 ft (4,313 m) MD, targeting a prospect in the Asl sands. It encountered 65 ft (19.8 m) TVD of oil-bearing sands.
The reservoir was moderately pressure depleted, and the flow test was completed using an electric submersible pump (ESP).
During the drillstem test, the well flowed at a stabilized rate of 1,544 b/d of fluid, with a gas/oil ratio of 279 cf/bbl. The maximum flow rate was constrained by the size of the ESP, which has been left in the well which was suspended for future use as a producer.
Dana expects to secure 3.9-6.5 MMbbl of reserves from the well. It will discuss development possibilities with state company EGPC.
