OSLO, Norway -- Songa Offshore says the newbuild drilling rig Songa Eclipse, under construction at Jurong Shipyard Singapore, will now be delivered next July.

Rig owner Deepwater Driller has agreed to a three-month extension to the original delivery date to ensure contractual readiness and quality assurance of operational systems.

Songa Offshore says it is targeting several contracts for the rig which would start immediately after delivery.

Among the company’s existing drilling fleet, the Songa Venus recently started an assignment for MEO Australia off Western Australia. On the completion, it will begin a two firm well commitment for Total E&P Australia.

Songa Mercur has completed its demobilization from Sakhalin to China and started a one-well program for ENI China.

Songa Dee, Songa Delta and Songa Trym are all in action offshore Norway for, respectively, Marathon/Lundin; Wintershall/Det Norske Oljeselskap; and Statoil.
