Qatar shipyard opens for business

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), Qatar's newest offshore and marine shipyard, has been officially opened by the Emir of Qatar and Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry.

DOHA, Qatar -- Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), Qatar's newest offshore and marine shipyard, has been officially opened by the Emir of Qatar and Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry.

This is a joint venture between Keppel Offshore & Marine and Qatar Gas Transport Co. (Nakilat).

N-KOM already has signed a three-year fleet servicing agreement with Shell International Trading and Shipping for ship repair services. It also has signed a memorandum of understanding with Gulf Drilling International (QSC), and entered into letters of intent with various shipping companies to provide shipyard and drydocking services for their vessels.

Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, deputy premier and minister of Energy and Industry for the state of Qatar and chairman, Nakilat, said: "The Nakilat Shipyard combines world-class facilities with outstanding international partners which will establish Qatar as an internationally recognized center of excellence in shipbuilding, repair, and conversion, along with new capabilities in industrial fabrication and construction.”
