CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- Metocean Services International (MSI) has completed a one-year current measurement program for the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) covering nine locations in northern Norway (68º-69º N latitude).
OLF initiated the study to widen its understanding of metocean conditions in the Lofoten/Vesterålen area in Nordland County.
For this program, MSI deployed nine separate moorings, each equipped with a current profiler, the frequency determined according to water depth, and a CTD logger. All of the moorings were serviced at three-monthly intervals using vessels chartered by MSI. The company mobilized operations from Sandnessjoen.
Moorings were deployed in positions designed to minimize conflict with local fishing operations. Throughout the program, only one mooring was lost, leading to successful data collection from 35 of 36 deployments.
