SHARJAH, UAE -- Fabricator Lamprell has confirmed a $210-million contract from Eurasia Drilling Co. (EDC) for a new, LeTourneau-designed jackup drilling rig.

The scope comprises construction and delivery of a fully outfitted and equipped, self-elevating Super 116E (Enhanced) Class mobile offshore drilling platform. It will be capable of operating in water depths of up to 250 ft (76 m), with a rated drilling depth of 30,000 ft (9,144 m).

Lamprell will fabricate the rig in modular form at its new yard in Hamriyah, with construction and commissioning to be completed at a shipyard on the Caspian Sea coast. Construction should take 24 months.
In its latest financial statement, Lamprell says it has performed refurbishment work on 42 jackup rigs this year, the work scope showcasing its full range of upgrade and refurbishment services.

The Sharjah facility has dealt with 21 of the rigs with Hamriyah working on the other half. However, the company has noted a slowdown in demand for rig refurbishment.

As for newbuild programs, Lamprell has started work on two jackups for National Drilling Co., Abu Dhabi, which should be delivered during the first half of 2012.

Construction of two offshore wellhead platforms for an operator in India is progressing well with delivery slated for late 2010.

The company’s yard at Jebel Ali, UAE, should deliver the process modules to Saipem Energy Services for ENI’s new Aquila field FPSO (offshore southern Italy) by Dec. 28.
