STAVANGER, Norway -- Statoil has entered into an agreement with Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies to extend application of drilling software tools across its worldwide operations.

The three-year agreement, which has an option for a two-year extension, takes in Kongsberg’s SiteCom real-time drilling data solution, Discovery Web data browser, and SmartAgent calculation tools.

"SiteCom is currently in use on several European Statoil well operations," says Erik Glende, VP Intellifield Drilling Software at Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies.

“We will work on enhancing the core product to meet some Statoil specific requirements, which will enable it to be rolled out across the company's global well operations over the course of the next two years, following extensive testing.”

SiteCom is designed to assist safer, quicker, and better informed drilling decision-making by integrating real-time data, historical data, reports, files, and chat from all locations on the rig.

This information can be disseminated to the contractor’s or operator’s offices or other locations throughout the world, all via a single, Web-based interface.

Statoil has expanded its use of SiteCom by deploying Discovery Web and SmartAgents alongside SiteCom. Discovery Web is a visualization tool that makes available all curves, survey data, mud log data, rig activity, image logs, and key performance indicators in what Kongsberg describes as a user-friendly, Web-based browser.

SiteCom SmartAgents are, according to the company, easy-to-connect custom modules which can be used for real-time calculations to improve interpretation, to check data quality, and to help manage the performance of vendors and service companies working on a project.
