ABU DHABI -- National Petroleum Construction Co. (NPCC) is investing over $400 million in new installation vessels.
The company has awarded contracts for two anchor handling tugs to Lingshan Shipyard in China.
NPCC Saadiyat, the first of these tugs, was delivered last month. The second vessel, NPCC Yas, will join the NPCC fleet next March.
In its own yard in Abu Dhabi, NPCC is also building Mussafah, a SEP-450 jackup vessel, which should be ready by end-2011.
Last May, the company contracted ZPMC Shipyard in China to build a large derrick lay Barge (DLS-4200), with completion scheduled for July 2012.
NPCC CEO Aqeel Madhi said: “These vessels will provide us with greater flexibility and capability to work in shallow waters, deep waters, and also in adverse weather conditions."
Chairman Hussain Al Nowais added that the company was seeking expansion opportunities in Libya, Nigeria, and Kazakhstan.
