ABERDEEN– Nexen Energy has discovered hydrocarbons in the West Rochelle structure in the UK central North Sea. The company reported gas and oil pay in a high-quality reservoir. The well is being sidetracked to further delineate the find.

West Rochelle, in Block 15/26b, is a potential tieback to the Nexen-operated Scott field.
Nexen is also drilling the Polecat prospect, a potential tieback to its Buzzard complex. Before year-end, the company plans to spud a well on Bluebell, a possible southerly extension of the Buzzard field.

Elsewhere in the central UK North Sea, Nexen intends to drill an exploration well early next year in the Golden Eagle area, which has a recoverable contingent resource of 150 MMboe. Planning is advanced for a standalone development of this area.

Offshore Nigeria, Nexen says development of the Usan field, operated by Total, is progressing well with start-up on-track for 2012. The scheme is based around an FPSO equipped to process 180,000 b/d of oil and to store up to 2 MMbbl of oil.

Major topside modules have been lifted onto the deck, and the FPSO is now 88% complete.
