Keppel FELS wins rig turnaround contracts

Offshore staff

SINGAPORE -- Keppel FELS has won orders totalling $101 million to complete and refurbish two semisubmersible rigs for Saipem and Ensco.

The contract from Saipem covers commissioning of the Frigstad D90 semi, Scarabeo 9. Much of the work comprises commissioning of all marine and drilling sub-systems onboard the DP-3 rig, which is designed to operate in water depths of up to 3,600 m (11,811 ft). Scarabeo 9 should depart from its construction yard in China and arrive at Keppel FELS towards the end of October.

Ensco’s contract covers the upgrade, repair, and refurbishment of the ENSCO 7500 semi. The program involves life extension work, renewal of steel and pipes, operational enhancements, a machinery overhaul, and expansion/upgrading of the living quarters. The rig is in Singapore after completing a contract for Chevron off Western Australia.
