DUBAI, UAE -- Topaz Energy and Marine has completed delivery of the deck structure of the Mobile Offshore Production Unit and storage (MOPUstor) platform for the Yme field in the Norwegian North Sea. The deck was built by Topaz Fabrication and Construction under a $75-million subcontract from Single Buoy Moorings for Yme’s operator, Talisman Energy Norge.
Topaz’s was responsible for fabrication and construction of the hull as well as the topsides. The program took more than two years to complete, involving a workforce of 1,400 at peak.
The MOPUstor, which weighed 12,400 metric tons (13,668 tons) at load-out, was built in Topaz’s Abu Dhabi yard (ADYARD), and is currently on board a heavy-lift transportation vessel undergoing the 5,000-km (3,107-mi) voyage to Norway. Yme is around 110 km (68 mi) offshore in a water depth of 92 m (302 ft).
Bill Bayliss, COO of Topaz Engineering, said: “This is the largest project that Topaz Engineering has undertaken and it is probably the single largest offshore unit ever built in the Middle East.”
