ABERDEEN , UK -- Britain’s Department of Energy and Climate Change and Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum & Energy have approved Total’s Islay gas field development in the North Sea.

Islay is in UK northern North Sea block 3/15, parts of it extending across the median line into Norwegian blocks 29/6a and 29/6c. Water depth is 120 m (394 ft).

Total plans to tie the accumulation back to its Alwyn complex, with first gas scheduled for the second half of 2011. Islay has reserves of close to 17 MMboe, and should deliver 2.5 MMcm/d (88.3 MMcf/d) of gas at peak, with associated condensates.
