SINGAPORE – COSCO Dalian Shipyard Co Ltd. has secured a $500-million turn-key contract from Dalian Deepwater Development Ltd. to engineer, procure, and construct a DP-3 deepwater drillship. Delivery is set for 3Q 2012.

The vessel, with a hull 291 m (955 ft) by 50 m (164 ft), will be designed to drill in 10,000 ft (3,050 m) water depth to more than 30,000 ft (9,150 m) drilling depth. COSCO says the vessel will have the largest deck-load capacity, deck space, and cargo storage of any drillship.

The hull and some of the equipment was part of an FPDSO for MPF Corp. Ltd. that COSCO acquired when the company filed bankruptcy.
