WOKING, UK-- Valiant Petroleum has tested its second exploration well on the Tybalt structure in the UK North Sea (well 211/8c-4Z).
The test achieved a post clean-up flow of 5,400 b/d of oil and 4 MMcf/d of gas on a 56/64-in. choke, a total of over 6,000 boe/d. Later, the well was choked back to 52/64-in., leading to a stabilized average flow of 4,600 b/d and 3.3 MMcf/d (5,150 boe/d) over an 11-hour period.
These rates were in-line with Valiant’s pre-drill prognosis. Oil samples from the test revealed crude with an API of 38-40°.
Valiant will integrate data complied on Tybalt into a detailed geological/reservoir model, which the company says is based on a stratigraphic trapping mechanism. However, the placement of the current well did not allow the full extent of the discovery to be assessed.
The focus of the technical evaluation will be on the extent and nature of the Upper Magnus reservoir in this area, in order to determine a location for appraisal drilling over the next 12 months.
Valiant and partner Agora Oil and Gas have decided to suspend the well for potential use as a future appraisal or development well.
