SINGAPORE-- Sembcorp Marine broke ground on Singapore’s first integrated yard facility at the company’s Tuas View Extension.
The facility is designed for ship repair and conversion, shipbuilding, rig building, and offshore engineering and construction and to meet new regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
The 206-hectare (509 acre) facility will be built in three phases. The 73.3-hectare (181 acre) S$750-million ($545-million) Phase I will focus on ship repair and conversion activities with completion scheduled for the end of 2013, and partial operations beginning in the second half of 2012. Phase I will feature four Very Large Crude Carrier drydocks totaling 1.55 million deadweight metric tons, a 3,408 m (11,181 ft) quay as well as workshops totaling 68,300 sq m (735,175 sq ft) for hull and fitting works, a blasting and painting chamber, and warehouse and craneage facilities.
