SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy -- Eni has encountered further gas while appraising its Jangkrik discovery in the Muara Bakau PSC, in the Kutei basin offshore East Kalimantan.
Jangkrik-2 was drilled 70 km (43 mi) from the Indonesian coast of Indonesia in 425 m (1,394 ft) water depth, to a subsurface depth of 2,449 m (8,035 ft). It intersected over 80 m (262 ft) of net gas pay in Pliocene reservoir sands.
During the production test that followed, the well produced high quality gas at a tubing constrained rate of 17.5 MMcf/d.
Eni, through its Indonesian subsidiary, operates the Muara Bakau PSC, in partnership with GDF. This latest result has caused the joint venture to raise their estimates of the field’s recoverable resources.
They now plan to move swiftly to assess the technical and commercial feasibility viability of a fast-track development that would take Jangkrik’s gas to the Bontang LNG plant.
In the Kutei basin, Eni is also a partner in the development of substantial gas reserves in the Ganal and Rapak blocks.
