MILAN -- Representatives of Eni have met Kazakhstan’s president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to review progress on hydrocarbon projects.

Eni CEO, Paolo Scaroni and E&P COO, Claudio Descalzi, were in Astana, mainly to follow up on an agreement signed in Rome last November, in the presence of Nazarbayev and Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

That agreement included a joint study by Eni and KazMunayGas of the Isatay and Shagala exploration areas in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea; the establishment of onshore gas sweetening and turbine power plants and a drydock shipyard; and upgrading of the Pavlodar refinery.

Eni expects to provide an update on the execution of these projects by end-2010.

The representatives also discussed progress of activities in the Kashagan offshore field, where Eni is responsible for the first phase of development.
