BUDE, UK -- The WGP Group has won a third extension to its Chirag Azeri Reservoir Seismic Project (CARSP) Life of Field Seismic (LoFS) survey in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea.

WGP has operated a bespoke system for the BP-led Azerbaijan International Operating Co. (AIOC) since 2007. The project is capable of repeat all-azimuth Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) seismic surveys in this area, enabling AIOC to monitor reservoir fluid movement.

Due to the size of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) offshore oilfield, WGP designed a solution employing OYO Geospace’s GERI 4C OBC on a semi-permanent basis.

It has also modified the PSV M/V Citadel into an OBC vessel capable of deploying and retrieving up to 132 km (82 mi) of cable across multiple survey areas; monitoring receiver placement via ROV; and providing the seismic source while minimizing operational disturbance in the field.

During 2007-09, three base-line and two repeat surveys were conducted, each with a total average spread of 540 sq km (208 sq mi), with a total of 195,000 shots acquired. Phase II of CARSP started this past April and includes three new base lines and one repeat surveys with total shots estimated at 250,000.
