HOUSTON -- Prysmian Cables & Systems will present a range of cable systems, submarine power cables, umbilicals, and flexible pipes this week at OTC.
The group produces steel and thermoplastic umbilicals, and later this year will start production of flexible pipes for offshore oil and gas at its newly expanded facility in Vila Velha, Brazil. This will allow Prysmian to offer a complete range of SURF (Subsea Umbilical, Riser and Flowline) products and services.
Prysmian has invested around $110 million to complement the existing plant dedicated to umbilical manufacture, which opened early in 2007. In 2008, the company signed a four–year frame agreement with Petrobras for the design and supply of a range of dynamic risers and static flowlines, in diameters up to 6-in. (15.2 cm). Last year, it completed the first prototype lengths of the new flexible pipes, manufactured in full compliance with required design and project specifications.
Recently, Petrobras awarded Prysmian a series of contracts valued at $42 million to supply 84.5 km (52.5 mi) of umbilical cable. The order involves six different types and configurations of umbilical systems for installation in four fields in the Campos and Espirito Santo basins by end-2010.
