HONG KONG -- CNOOC has discovered further oil in Bohai Bay.

The new discovery – Penglai (PL) 9-1 – is in the Miaoxibei Uplift in the eastern part of Bohai Bay. Well PL9-1-2 penetrated oil pay zones with total thickness of 77 m (252 ft) and a fractured zone of buried hill with total thickness of 158 m (518 ft). The well was drilled to TD of 1,505 m (4,937 ft), in a water depth of around 29 m (95 ft).

CNOOC also performed a drillstem test for three layers. During the test the well flowed at an average rate of 540 b/d of oil.
