Nini East oil to prolong Siri lifespan

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- DONG Energy has produced first oil from the Nini East development in the Danish North Sea.

Nini East is part of the Nini license in the Siri area, around 200 km (124 mi) from Denmark’s west coast. The field has been developed using an unmanned satellite platform with oil exported via the Nini facilities 7 km (4.35 mi) southwest to DONG’s Siri platform.

“Producing from this new field is part of our endeavor to keep up production for years ahead,” said Soren Gath Hansen, the company’s executive VP for exploration and production. “With the development of Nini East we have added years to the lifespan of the Siri complex.”

According to DONG, the newly onstream field holds estimated oil reserves of 17 MMbbl. Partner Noreco added that the project was delivered more than 10% below the original cost estimate, and that the partners are already planning for the next phase of the development with two additional wells.

DONG Energy operates the Nini license with 40%, in partnership with RWE Dea and Noreco (both 30%).
