ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- ExxonMobil Production has drilled and cased PTU-15, the first development well for the Point Thomson project on Alaska’s North Slope. A shore-based rig directionally drilled the well to MD more than 16,000 ft (4,877 m).

The Point Thomson project, 60 mi (97 km) east of Prudhoe Bay, is scheduled to begin production in 2014. Field development will include a gas cycling plant designed to produce hydrocarbon liquids and re-inject natural gas back into the reservoir.
