Tornado prospect well hits pay

ABERDEEN, UK -- Exploration well 204/13-1 on the Tornado prospect, West of Shetland, has hit pay, according to operator OMV.

The well discovered gas and oil in Tertiary reservoir sandstones and extensive data collection is currently underway, the company says. The license partners are planning a sidetrack to delineate the discovery and determine hydrocarbon fluid types and overall size of the new field.

The drillship Stena Carron drilled the well to a true vertical depth of 2,743 m (8,999 ft) in the Lamba formation.

The participants in the Tornado well are OMV (35% interest), Dana Petroleum (30% interest), Dong Energy (20% interest), Faroe Petroleum (7.5% interest), and Idemitsu E&P (7.5% interest).
