OSLO -- The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has granted StatoilHydro consent to use the Veslefrikk field facilities until 2020.
The Veslefrikk field was approved for development in 1987 and came onstream in 1989. Field production was to terminate this year, according to the original plan for development and operations.
Veslefrikk still contains large quantities of oil and gas, the PSA says. At the end of 2008, remaining recoverable reserves totaled 6.3 MMcm of oil and 1.6 cm of gas.
The consent includes the Veslefrikk A and Veslefrikk B facilities, the oil pipeline from
Veslefrikk to Oseberg, and the gas pipeline to Statpipe.
Through the Veslefrikk 2020 project, StatoilHydro and the other licensees studied the options for extending the lifetime of the field. The licensees have carried out analyses, studies, and condition assessments of structure, equipment, systems, and components at the facility.
