PARIS -- Total has hit pay with the Moho Nord Marine-4 (MHNM-4) well offshore of the Republic of Congo. Moho Nord Marine-4 was drilled to a total depth of 4,239 m (13.907 ft) in the Albian series, 4.4 km (2.7 mi) northwest of the Tertiary structure drilled by MHNM-3. The well proved a 163-m (535-ft) column of high quality oil in the Albian F structure and flowed at 8,100 b/d through a 52/64-in. choke, the company reports.
The discovery confirms the existence of significant Albian resources in the northern part of the Moho-Bilondo license, in addition to the already recognized Tertiary and Albian A and B resources, the company says. Total has launched preliminary development studies with a view to develop the Moho Nord resources.
The Phase 1 development of the southern part of Moho-Bilondo, where production began in April 2008, is currently continuing with drilling of further wells. The company hopes to achieve a production of 90,000 boe/d in 2010. The development is comprised of fourteen subsea wells tied back to a floating production unit with output exported to the onshore Djéno terminal.
