NEW ORLEANS -- Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted to Minerals Management Service today, personnel are evacuated from 71 production platforms, equivalent to 10.2% of the 694 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

From the operators' reports, it is also estimated that approximately 18.9% of the oil production and approximately 28.9% of the natural gas production in the Gulf is shut-in.
