Welltec, Cubility win ONS innovation awards

The ONS Innovations Committee today named its technical innovation award winners for 2008.

STAVANGER, Norway --The ONS Innovations Committee today named its technical innovation award winners for 2008. The larger company category winner was Welltec for its Well Miller reverse cutting bit method of milling without a rig, and the small-to-medium size company winner was Cubility AS for its MudCube drilling fluids handling system.

A Special Innovation Award was made by the committee for the second time. The winner this year is John C. Mihm, former engineering manager for Phillips Oil Co.

There were 90 nominations for the two categories of company awards, and 10 finalists were selected from which the winner was determined.

In the large company division, the other nominees were ABB for its wireless vibration sensor, Cameron for MARS, FMC Technologies, and Sevan Marine for its cylindrical platform design. The other small-to-medium company nominees were Pure Technologies for SmartBall, ReelWell's drilling scheme, Remora ASA for HiLoad, and Wirescan AS for the line resonance analysis system.
