DSME awards drilling riser contract to Aker Solutions

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has awarded Aker Solutions Malaysia Sdn. Bhd a $35-million contract for a deepwater marine drilling riser.

The contract is for a complete deepwater marine drilling riser system with buoyancy package and associated equipment for a drillship DSME is building.

The riser system will be from Aker Solutions' manufacturing center in Malaysia. Buoyancy modules will be manufactured at the same center's recently opened buoyancy production unit by Aker subsidiary Phoenix Polymers International Ltd.

Delivery is scheduled for 2010.
