West Rinnes well flows for Dana

Offshore staff

ABERDEEN, UK -- Dana Petroleum has discovered oil in the West Rinnes structure, close to its producing Hudson and Melville fields in the UK Northern North Sea.

Well 210/24a-11, drilled to a total measured depth of 6,470 ft (1,972 m), encountered a full Brent reservoir sequence with high quality sands.

A drill-stem test flowed at up to 7,800 b/d, rates being constrained by the test equipment on the rig. Produced fluid was 100% clean oil (32deg API), and of a similar quality to output from Hudson, 5 km (3.1 mi) away.

The well is now being side-tracked into the adjacent East Rinnes structure, thought to be similar in size. Dana has plans to drill other prospects in the area including West Hudson, North Melville, and South-West Rinnes.
