STAVANGER, Norway --Gas has started flowing from StatoilHydro's Njord field in the Norwegian Sea, following a $220-million investment program.
Njord initially was developed to produce oil through 11 production wells, the associated gas being re-injected into the reservoir for pressure support.
Under the second-phase scheme, StatoilHydro has put in new producer wells and also phased in additional reserves close to the Njord infrastructure. This is allowing the field to deliver around 20,000 b/d of oil and up to 6 MMcm/d (212 MMcf/d) of gas.
A new 40-km (25-mi) gas export pipeline connects Njord to the Ǻsgard transportation system. This in turn is connected to the processing complex in Kaarsto, western Norway, and the long-distance Norwegian trunklines to mainland Europe.
The new process facility on the Njord platform has been in operation since Oct. 1, but problems with a weld delayed start-up of the new pipeline.
