ABERDEEN, UK --Total has commemorated 20 years of oil production through its North Alwyn platform in the UK northern North Sea.

This remains one of the largest oil and gas processing installations in the UK sector, serving as a hub for nearby fields and handling production of around 140,000boe/d.

The platform has processed over 900 MMboe to date from Alwyn and other satellite fields. The latest subsea tieback, Jura, is due on stream next year.

At peak, Jura should contribute around 45,000 boe/d. Total plans further appraisal wells, one of which is currently in progress on the Jura field. Over the next three years, it expects to invest around $800 million on exploration and development in the Alwyn area.

The facilities were initially designed for a 20-year service, but Total aims to extend operations now beyond 2020. Over the five-year period to end-2008, it anticipates spending around $600 million on asset integrity and compliance with new regulations in the Alwyn area.
