Aker Oilfield contracts deepwater support vessel to Petrobras

Aker Oilfield Services has signed a five-year, $350-million contract with Petrobras to provide a deepwater subsea equipment support vessel (SESV) starting by 2010.

OSLO, Norway –Aker Oilfield Services has signed a five-year, $350-million contract with Petrobras to provide a deepwater subsea equipment support vessel (SESV) starting by 2010.

The Petrobras SESV vessel currently under construction has been chartered from DOF Subsea ASA and is based on the Aker OSCV 03 design. It comprises new solutions developed by Aker Oilfield Services for handling, testing, retrieving, and installing subsea christmas trees and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a challenging operating environment.

The SESV concept was incepted by Petrobras and further developed by Aker Oilfield Services for operations in up to 2.000 m ()6,562 ft) water depth, undertaking a range of services related to subsea equipment intervention traditionally performed by drilling rigs.
