The Netherlands -- Global Industries has selected Keppel Singmarine to build the combination pipelay and heavy-lift vessel Global 1200.
The DP vessel will have capacity to lift 1,200 metric tons (1,323 tons), install 60-in. (152-cm) pipe, and lower 400 metric tons (441 tons). It is being built to Sea of Solutions' SOC 600 design. The 162-m (531-ft) long vessel will be propelled by two 4,500 kW thrusters for a maximum speed of 15 knots.
The vessel is scheduled to enter service in April 2010.
