OKALHOMA CITY, Oklahoma –Oil production has started from Polvo field offshore Brazil in block BM-C-8 of the Campos basin, according to Devon Energy Corp. The field, in 300 ft (91 m) water depth, is expected to reach 50,000 b/d of oil by the end of 2008.
Production is via a fixed drilling and production platform connected to an FPSO. The first shipment from the FPSO is expected this October.
Devon is operator with 60% and SK Corp. of Korea holds the remainder.
"Development of the Polvo discovery was a significant engineering project carried out efficiently within a rapid three-year discovery-to-production cycle time," says Stephen J. Hadden, senior vice president, exploration and production, of Devon. "With Polvo and nine additional offshore leases, we have a solid future in Brazil with potential for additional discoveries."
