CALGARY, Canada -- Addax Petroleum Corp. has discovered oil and gas on block OML137 offshore Nigeria. The company found gas in the Udele West structure, and oil and gas in the Ofrima North structure.
The Ofrima-2 exploration well discovered a 43-m (140-ft) gross oil bearing interval at a depth of 2,134 m (7,000 ft) subsea.
Based on static pressure data measurements, Addax anticipates the presence of light oil similar to the crude oil produced from the Okwori and Nda fields in adjacent block OML126. The well also encountered three gas bearing intervals with individual gross gas columns of 9 m (29 ft), 13 m (43 ft), and 48 m (158 ft).
A second exploration well, Udele-2, was drilled on the Udele West structure immediately following the Ofrima North discovery. Udele-2 discovered seven gas bearing intervals with individual gross gas columns of between 12.5 and 34 m (41 and 113 ft), at depths ranging from 823 m to 1,798 m (2,700-5,900 ft) subsea.
The Ofrima-2 well is 80 km (50 mi) west of the company's Okwori field and 15 km (9 mi) from the Agip operated Agbara field. The Udele-2 well is 32 km (20 mi) southeast of the Ofrima-2 well. The production license is 50 km (31 mi) from the planned Brass LNG terminal.
Both wells were drilled using Saipem'sScarabeo 3 semisubmersible drilling rig in water depths of approximately 75 m (246 ft) at Ofrima North and 170 m (558 ft) at Udele West.
TheScarabeo 3 is undertaking a well workover on the Okwori field, after which it will move offsite for approximately three months for routine inspection before returning to OML126 and OML137. Addax plans to re-enter each well to carry out flow tests over selected intervals when the semi returns.
