BANGKOK -- PTT Exploration and Production Public Co. Ltd. is preparing a plan to develop the Zawtika field in Myanmar block M9, where two appraisal wells have confirmed the commercial potential of natural gas.

PTTEP subsidiary PTTEP International Ltd. will complete three more appraisal wells in the Gulf of Martaban block, where Zawtika-3 and Zawtika-4 have tested strong gas flows. The company planned to further appraise the field through Kakonna-2, Zawtika-5, and Zawtika-6 in June.

Zawtika-3, southeast of Zawtika-1A, was spudded on April 8 and drilled to a TD of 2,274 m (7,460 ft). The well had a natural gas flow rate of 26.7 MMcf/d from one of the eight zones of natural gas bearing formation, with a total thickness of 65 m (213 ft).

Zawtika-4, east of Zawtika-1A, had a combined flow rate of 71.1 MMcf/d from two of the eleven zones encountered during drilling. The well was spudded on May 3 and was drilled to 2,390 m TD. Well Zawtika-4 encountered a 161-m (52- ft) natural gas bearing formation.
