Jurong wins FPSO conversion contract

SINGAPORE -- Jurong Shipyard has won a contract to convert the 188,697-dwt Polar Alaska into an FPSO by 1Q 2008 for Aker Floating Production for deployment off the east coast of India.

The FPSO modification includes installing an internal turret, three units of steam turbine generators and another three units of gas turbine generators, new process facilities for crude separation and gas compression, as well as upgrading the piping and electrical systems.

The FPSO, to be named Aker Smart 1, will be chartered to Reliance Industry Ltd. of India for deployment in the MA D6 field for 10 years without dry docking. It is being designed to process 60,000 b/d of oil and 80,000 b/d of liquid with a storage capacity of 1.3 MMbbl.

In a separate contract, Jurong has been selected to convert and carry out life extension on the scientific research vessel, Joides Resolution. The vessel will become an integrated scientific ocean drilling vessel for Overseas Drilling Ltd.
