RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Petrobras has brought online the first well on its Cottonwood field at 1.1 MMcm/d of gas and 4,000 b/d of condensate. A second well will start flowing at the end of this month, boosting gas production to 2 MMcm/d.

The two wells will bring the field's production to 20,000 boe/d, resulting in the company's largest producing field in the US. This is also the company's first operated Gulf of Mexico deepwater field to achieve first production.

The Cottonwood field is in Garden Banks block 244 in 670 m (2,198 ft) of water. The field's two subsea wells are tied back to a third-party production platform, 27 km (17 mi) away.
