Cairn starts Raava drilling

The Hercules jackup Rig 31 has begun drilling the first in a series of wells in Ravva oilfield offshore eastern India for Cairn Energy, according to reports from the area.

EDINBURGH, Scotland -- The Hercules jackup Rig 31 has begun drilling the first in a series of wells in Ravva oilfield offshore eastern India for Cairn Energy, according to reports from the area.

The rig, which was refurbished in Malaysia prior to reaching India, is scheduled to drill a total of seven wells with options for more.

Cairn is operator in a joint venture with ONGC in the field.
