Wortel-1 discovers gas off East Java

ADELAIDE, Australia -- The Wortel-1 exploration well in 42 m of water off East Java, Indonesia, in the Sampang PSC produced at a rate of 18.5 MMcf/d of gas and 4-5 bbl of condensate per Mcf, according to Santos (Sampang) Pty. Ltd.

The gross cas column was 141 m over the interval depths of 1,242 m to 1,382 m, and the DST gas contained no CO2 or H2S. The test was on a 56/64-in. choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,071 psi.

Following completion of testing, the Wortel-1 well will be plugged and abandoned as planned. TheSedco 601 drilling rig will move to drill the Madi-1 exploration well in the neighbouring Madura offshore PSC and then, subject to partner and government approvals, return to drill the Wortel -2 appraisal well in October 2006.

The participants are Santos, 40.5%; Singapore Petroleum Sampang Ltd., 36%; Cue Sampang Pty. Ltd., 13.5%; and PT Petrogas Oyong Jatim, 10%.
