SINGAPORE -- Dilling began today on the Wortel-1 exploration well in the Sampang Production Sharing Contract, offshore Indonesia.

Wortel-1, 7 km west of the Oyong field and 75 km southeast of the city of Surabaya, will test a fault dependent structural closure.

The reservoir target is analogous to the hydrocarbon bearing zone in the Oyong field. Wortel-1 is anticipated to be drilled to a measured depth of 1,500 m subsea over 20 days.

Santos (Sampang) Pty. Ltd. with 40.5% stake is the operator, SPC has 36%, Cue Sampany Pty. Ltd. holds 13.5%, while Indonesia's PT Petrogas Oyong Jatim has 10%.
