Transocean to construct new drillship

Hydro has awarded Transocean Inc. a drilling contract for construction of an Enterprise-class drillship plus a multi-year contract for the semisubmersible rig Henry Goodrich.

Hydro has awarded Transocean Inc. a drilling contract for construction of an Enterprise-class drillship plus a multi-year contract for the semisubmersible rigHenry Goodrich.

Construction of the dynamically positioned, double-hull drillship is expected to be at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. yard in Okpo, South Korea, at an estimated cost of $615 million. The rig will be designed to drill wells of up to 40,000 ft TD and to drill in water depths up to 12,000 ft. The drilling contract is a four-year contract expected to begin in mid-2009.

TheHenry Goodrich contract is for two years in the GoM beginning in February 2007. Water depth capacity of the semisubmersible will be improved to 5,000 ft.

The drillship will have Transocean's patented dual-activity drilling technology, a new top drive system, high-pressure mud pumps and a variable deckload of more than 20,000 metric tons.
