(Asia-Pacific) - Singapore's Jurong Shipyard has signed a Letter of Intent with PetroMena AS to build a second unit of a Friede & Goldman Ex-D design semisubmersible drilling rig for $480 million.

The second unit will have specifications substantially identical to the first unit that was secured in October 2005, says Jurong Shipyard, a subsidiary of SembCorp Marine.

The 6th generation ultra deepwater semisubmersible drilling rig is capable of operating in 3,000 m water depth and harsh environment drilling conditions.

It is engineered for stability and versatility with operational displacement of 43,400 metric tons at 17 m draft and 46,750 metric tons at 20 m draft and is suitable for operations in most of the world's known challenging deepwater arenas.

The construction contract takes effect end March 2006 with delivery scheduled not later than Dec. 15, 2009.

PetroMena AS is a Norwegian company under the management of Larsen Oil and Gas, a company involved in business development, technical, financial, and operations management services and investments in the oil and offshore industries.

Larsen Oil and Gas is also the business manager to Petrojack ASA and Petrolia Drilling ASA.

Petrojack ASA currently has three jackup drilling rigs under construction in Jurong Shipyard.
