Statoil awarded Vetco Aibel a NOK320 million turnkey contract to provide a compressor for its Huldra platform in the Norwegian North Sea. The compressor has been ordered via Statoil's frame agreement with Dresser Rand, and Saipem UK has been contracted for transportation and installation. Vetco Aibel will also install a temporary living quarters module on the platform.

The compressor will be employed to maintain export pressure 115-km through the pipeline, taking Huldra's gas to Hydro's Heimdal platform, 140-km to the south. It will have a total installed weight of 600-900 tonnes, including the living quarters. The latter is needed because Huldra's platform is not normally manned. The aim will be to deliver the compressor as complete as possible to limit associated operations offshore. Without the new module, falling output and reservoir decline would have led to termination of operations in fall 2006.
