Sept. 16--ChevronTexaco and joint partners Shell and BP announced a deepwater discovery at the Great White prospect in Alaminos Canyon block 857 in 8,000 ft of water. It was drilled to a TD of 19,907 ft.
"We are encouraged by the results of this well and plan to drill three Alaminos Canyon wildcats in 2003," Kathleen Arthur, vice president of ChevronTexaco's Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Business Unit, said.
Further appraisal drilling will be done to determine the extent of the discovery. The Deepwater Nautilus, a fifth-generation semisubmersible owned by Transocean and under long-term contract to Shell Exploration and Production Co., began drilling operations on March 6 and reached its final depth in May.
